Don - a licensed civil engineer, real estate broker and general contractor - is a second-generation Bay Area builder who founded Heartwood Communities. It was a natural next step in his career-long commitment to integrity and conscientious land development and building.
Don previously founded Babbitt Civil Engineering, where he consulted on land development issues for clients including Kaufman & Broad, Standard Pacific Homes and Pulte Homes. After a successful career in engineering, in 1993 he founded Passport Homes. There, for more than 11 years, he drew on his extraordinary depth of knowledge to create hundreds of homes and dozens of neighborhoods he believed in.
Now, at Heartwood Communities, Don focuses on acquiring land that creates great neighborhoods - overseeing site planning, architecture, engineering, and all entitlement processing.
Don is a graduate of San Jose State University and is active in several professional organizations such as the Green Builders Council, the Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. He has conducted land development seminars for the Home Builders Association's Education Council, and administers a college scholarship program through the California Building Industry Foundation, established in memory of his father. He is active in Bay Area service organizations and founded Dublin Partners in Education, which provides career mentorship to Dublin High School students. He has coached Little League and high school baseball. Don has even been certified by the American Lung Association for building energy-efficient and healthy homes.
